The predecessor of the Software Engineering program at Hefei University of Technology was the Computer Application major, established in 1979. In 2003, it was granted the authority to confer professional degrees in the field of Software Engineering. The program focuses on industrial software, specifically addressing the real-time and complexity aspects of industrial process control and production management. Employing intelligent and visual approaches with safety and reliability as primary goals, it explores software engineering methods tailored to the characteristics of industrial software. The program has made significant achievements in research areas such as service-oriented software engineering, embedded software theory and technology, software engineering visualization technology, software quality assurance, and trustworthy computing.
